Digital technology and the energy transition: two significant challenges facing our industry
Published on 29 April 2022SPIE is able to tackle them on a daily basis, thanks amongst other things to its leading expertise in energy performance, the IoT (Internet of Things) and preventive maintenance, in addition to the diversity of the sectors in which the Group operates.

More added value to customers with our “augmented operator” service
In a continuous innovation approach, SPIE Oil & Gas Services is working with start-ups and innovative companies to bring, besides its deep technical expertise, more added value to customers. This is the ambition of the “augmented operator” service. Based on mobile application for on-site operational task digitalisation, inspection by drones, smart glasses for bringing the expertise remotely to sites, etc. SPIE is adapting the most recent innovations from various sectors to the challenges of the oil and gas industry.
-70%
During the technical support mission on an electrical power station in West Africa, experts were able to cut their travel expenses by 70% through the use of smart glasses.
+15 and 38%
The mobile digital application increased productivity between 15 and 38% thanks to the time savings gained on reporting and retyping tasks.

Ensuring the safety of agri-food industry employees thanks to COBOTs
The Industrie division of SPIE Industrie & Tertiaire is supporting a major French group from the agri-food sector in the development of its cooperative robot (COBOT) palletiser. The goal: to provide practical, ergonomic, and small-footprint solution, with the aim of improving employee safety and negating the need for heavier safety devices. This new palletiser is suitable for a restricted industrial environment. It thus combines practicality and performance, with impressive carrying and throughput capacities.
up to 35 kg
The COBOT can withstand loads of up to 35 kg.
8.5 boxes per minute
In cooperative1 mode, it is capable of processing 8.5 boxes per minute.
3 boxes per minute
When an employee enters the safety zone, the COBOT switches to collaborative2 mode, reducing its speed to 3 boxes per minute to allow operators to work alongside it.
1 When the workspace is shared with a human
2 When the robot is operating at the same time as and alongside the human (to be confirmed by experts...)

Automation of data management
Improving our performance quality and efficiency for greater customer satisfaction, while reducing administrative cost: this is the Robotic Process Automation promise. An innovation aimed at optimising operational processes and simplifying some of the repetitive tasks for the employees. The principle: automation of operational data maintenance, which requires simultaneous updates in multiple information systems, through the use of software robots. The solution is scalable and is currently in the deployment phase within several projects. SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa has for example developed a robot for an e-commerce customer that ensures that the documentation (e.g. maintenance records) in the system is regularly updated. Another robot, currently in the pilot phase, will be able to process automatic email responses.

Data entry time with RPA (vs 18 weeks manually).
0%
An error rate of up to 0% can be achieved if the RPA algorithm is programmed thoroughly.

Of increase in productivity.

Guaranteeing the traceability of tools
A group specialised in aircraft painting, called upon the Industrie division of SPIE Industrie & Tertiaire to develop a tool detection system for an assembly line. Specifically, the tools are equipped with RFID tags positioned loose in a plastic toolbox. The operator can scan his tool box through a PDA or a detection tunnel, and the traceability is consolidated in a backoffice developed in collaboration with A2SI, an SME. The goal: to provide on site and off-site traceability of the 70 toolboxes and to ensure that no tools are left behind on site.
100% traceability
Regardless of the bulk storage of tools.
1,500 RFID tags
To be assigned to all tools.
In just 3 seconds
Toolboxes are analysed.
