Ratingen, 28 November 2024 – SPIE Germany Switzerland Austria has merged SPIE OSMO and SPIE Dürr to create the new business entity SPIE Building Technology Automation & Traffic (SPIE BTAT). SPIE BTAT offers smart solutions in the specialised fields of building, automation and traffic engineering. The merger, effective 1 October 2024, has established a strong business entity with over 440 employees based in Georgsmarienhütte, Osnabrück, Weinstadt and Kiel.
SPIE BTAT designs and realises turnkey systems and plants for industrial and commercial customers and public authorities. The company is active in the fields of electrical systems and automation technology, machine and plant engineering, medium and low-voltage systems, tunnel and traffic engineering and information and telecommunications technology. “By pooling our expertise and strengths, we can better address the needs of our customers and provide them with bespoke solutions,” says Klaus Eismann, Managing Director of SPIE Building Technology Automation & Traffic.
Founded in 1970, SPIE OSMO has earned a reputation as a specialist in building technology, medium and low-voltage installations, combined heat and power systems, automation and control technology, technical tunnel equipment and IT and communications technology. The company has further expanded its technological portfolio with solutions for control and monitoring centres and the electrical outfitting of navigation locks, with a clear focus on innovation and engineering to realise forward-looking projects. SPIE Dürr, established in 1977, is renowned for its expertise in tunnel and traffic engineering, designing pioneering systems that ensure safe and efficient traffic management on motorways, rural roads and in urban areas. Its core focus is on equipping road tunnels with all of the requisite operational technology.
In addition to digitalisation, measures that enhance system efficiency and conserve resources are in high demand in this era of climate change. “We see in our projects how critical energy efficiency, decarbonisation and the shift to renewable energy sources have become,” explains Klaus Eismann. “That’s why we’re helping our customers lead the energy transition with systems and plants for power supply, employing cutting-edge technologies to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.”
“We see the new business entity as a key step in driving our growth strategy forward,” says Jörn Ettenhofer, Head of the Building Technology & Automation operational division and member of the SPIE Germany Switzerland Austria management board. “Even as we expand and take on an interregional scope, SPIE BTAT remains deeply rooted in the respective regions. Close relationships with our customers are a key part of our DNA.”
