Ditzingen, 26 June 2023 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, realised the heating and cooling technology in Trumpf’s new production halls, which cover a gross floor area of 45,000 square meters, at its Ditzingen site. The project for the customer, whose Ditzingen site produces components for the chip manufacturing industry, began back in June 2021 and was successfully completed in March of this year.
All services from a single source
Trumpf Laser- und Systemtechnik GmbH, which is based in Ditzingen, has expanded its production facilities to include three new production halls. The heating and cooling equipment had to be installed quickly, so that the temperature inside the new production environment could be regulated and production work could start immediately. The teams, which were headed by project manager Rainer Hallmeyer from SPIE Wiegel, a subsidiary of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, installed a total of five refrigerating machines, six recooling plants and one heat pump as well as radiant ceiling panels, air curtains and interior ventilation systems. This required the installation of around 800 metres of piping for the cooling water supply and another 30 kilometres of additional piping on the site. SPIE installed the power station and primary media distribution system in the third basement level of one of the halls.
“Thanks to SPIE’s close coordination with us, the planning specialists and other partners, all the milestones were reached on schedule. This allowed the production team to move into its new premises on the originally planned date. We were once again highly impressed with SPIE’s technical know-how and professional, results-oriented partnership,” says Frank Schaffert, who is responsible at Trumpf for construction implementation and factory planning. Marcus Raabe, Executive Managing Director of SPIE Wiegel in the Building Technology & Automation operational division: “We are delighted to have won over Trumpf once again with our extensive specialist and technical expertise and to have implemented a highly complex project on schedule and to our customer’s utmost satisfaction.”
A trusting partnership going back more than seven years
“With the help of up to 50 specialists, we successfully implemented this project, which was technically highly complex and scheduled with clockwork precision, in 50,000 installation hours,” says Bernd Hentsch, operational manager of SPIE Wiegel. One important factor in the success of this project was the outstanding communication with the customer and planning office – with short decision-making channels and flexibility in the event of changes at short notice. The teams, comprising the highly experienced SPIE Wiegel site managers Stefan Kellner and Ralf Miksch along with numerous young specialists and senior installation partners, worked together in a highly effective manner and were highly motivated to take on this challenging task and develop custom-fit solutions. Trumpf and SPIE have enjoyed a trusting partnership going back more than seven years.
