Cergy, 25 May 2023 - SPIE Industrie, a subsidiary of SPIE France that helps industrial companies to overcome their digital and energy transition challenges, is designing, assembling and installing two electrical shelters for Lhyfe, a producer and supplier of green, renewable hydrogen. The two production sites concerned will be Lhyfe Bretagne, at Buléon in Morbihan (56) and Lhyfe Occitanie, at Bessières in Haute-Garonne (31).
The project, which began at the end of 2022, will culminate in the installation, in June 2023, of two electrical shelters designed and installed by SPIE Industrie, the French subsidiary of the SPIE group, an independent European leader in multi-technical services in the fields of energy and communications. These technical shelters will be installed at the Lhyfe Bretagne (Buléon) and Lhyfe Occitanie (Bessières) production sites. They will be used to convert the renewable energies that will supply the two sites. Each site will be able to produce up to 2 tonnes of green, renewable hydrogen per day, from an installed capacity of 5 MW.
In addition to installation at the production sites, SPIE Industrie's support for Lhyfe is part of a genuine co-construction approach: from the studies relating to the electrical part of the production batch, through the production of the 3D design plan, to the assembly of the two electrical shelters in SPIE Industrie's Lorient workshops. This comprehensive approach reflects the subsidiary's positioning, which is committed to helping manufacturers meet the challenges of producing green and renewable hydrogen, the energy transition and decarbonisation.
The contract with Lhyfe illustrates the continuity of SPIE Industrie teams' longstanding expertise in energy conversion and management. As a member of France Hydrogène, the subsidiary also benefits from in-depth knowledge of the environment and the hydrogen ecosystem, which is now being applied to the necessary transition to green and renewable hydrogen.
"We are proud to support Lhyfe in the development of this energy of the future at its Lhyfe Bretagne and Lhyfe Occitanie sites. With expertise and solutions at every stage of the green hydrogen value chain (production, distribution, mobility and industrial applications), SPIE Industrie is now one of the key players in green hydrogen. The design of the two electric shelters in our Lorient workshops reinforces our position as a responsible and agile solutions integrator," explains Charly Perigault, Head of Development at SPIE Industrie.
"The production of green, renewable hydrogen poses many new technical challenges. We are delighted to be working with a company as expert and innovative as SPIE to develop the right solutions for each of our sites," says Thomas Créach, Technical Director at Lhyfe.
The hydrogen produced at the Buléon site will be used to power Lorient Agglomération's plans to transform part of its urban mobility network. Eventually, 19 buses and 2 passenger transport boats (transrade) will run on hydrogen throughout the conurbation.
In accordance with the wishes of the "Corridor H2 Occitanie" project led by the Occitanie Region, the Bessieres site will contribute, as soon as it is commissioned, to decarbonising freight and passenger transport by supplying green, renewable hydrogen to lorries, coaches and other fuel cell vehicles, particularly on the Albi - Toulouse section. The Region's objective is to have 7 hydrogen distribution stations, 40 hydrogen-powered trucks, 62 trailers/refrigeration units and 15 retrofitted regional intercity coaches (converted to hydrogen) throughout its territory by the end of 2024.
