Jonathan Aubert has a dual mission: working to both maintain and develop the telecoms network. A role that became all the more important during the first lockdown to keep users connected.

In his day-to-day work, Jonathan climbs all sorts of structures, including water towers, bell towers and pylons, to ensure maintenance in the Grand Ouest region of France. After seven years as a railways worker, Jonathan joined SPIE CityNetworks two and a half years ago. He now acts as a fully dedicated mobile technical consultant for a major telecoms operator alongside his work as a technician.

I love my job, it allows me to combine my passion for climbing with my interest in new technologies. Working at height gives me a sense of freedom and the opportunity to take in the views.”

Above all, Jonathan is proud of the service he provides to users, which became even more rewarding during the pandemic. It would be unthinkable to leave subscribers without a telephone or Internet connection! More than ever, we had to be reactive to the slightest malfunction, and we were working with reduced teams. “I realised
the importance of our work when we were thanked by the inhabitants of three villages whose access to the network had been cut off
”, he recalls. “The health crisis has
only accelerated the digitalisation of our society. The future of our sector is secure thanks to the constantly evolving materials and user requirements!

In France, in 2020, in the telecom sector:

11,000

technical and regulatory controls in preventive maintenance

7,800

response actions in remedial maintenance

8,600

correctional, developmental or operational works in corrective maintenance
