A new contract for SPIE in the hospital sector

Published on 22 January 2019

Paris, January the 22nd, 2019 – The Tertiaire division of SPIE Industrie & Tertiaire, a French subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has been awarded the electricity lot for the new hospital facility in Riantec (Morbihan department). The contract is further proof of the confidence placed in the SPIE teams by the Groupe Hospitalier Bretagne Sud.

With a total surface area of 13,000 m² and a capacity of 238 beds, the future Riantec hospital will merge the two existing hospital in Port-Louis and Riantec. Work has just started and is due for completion in early 2021, with the move into the new facility also scheduled for the same period.

The contract awarded to the Tertiaire division of SPIE Industrie & Tertiaire covers the high and low current electrical installations and the fire safety system. It takes into account two key challenges in the hospital sector: ensuring secure networks and guaranteeing reliable installations.

Starting in January 2019 and for a period of 18 months, six employees from the Ploemeur agency will be deployed on site to deliver the following services:

  • Deployment of a 400 kVA high-voltage/low-voltage substation with load transfer to the hospital’s generator, providing immediate backup in the event of a power failure.
  • Installation of a low-voltage master distribution panel and of 18 secondary distribution boards.
  • Lighting, equipment and addressable emergency lighting operated by remote control (controlling 150 autonomous units).
  • VDI (Voice-Data-Image) pre-wiring, public address and TV systems.
  • Access control, video surveillance, intercom and medical alarm systems.
  • Fire safety system.
  • Centralised technical management.

Solid local hospital expertise

With this new contract, the Tertiaire division of SPIE Industrie & Tertiaire has strengthened its position with the main purchasers operating in the hospital sector of the Bretagne region and western France. Since last April, a team has also been working on the electricity lot for the new hospital in Belle-Île-en-Mer on behalf of the Groupe Hospitalier Brocéliande Atlantique.

Current and recently completed contracts also include climate engineering projects for Le Mans Hospital (including the implementation of designs produced using BIM), the design of a fire detection and alarm system for Quimperlé Hospital (Groupe Hospitalier Bretagne Sud), general electrical installations as part of the redevelopment of a residential care institution for dependent adults (EHPAD) in Lorient and the redevelopment and extension of the biology laboratories of Bretagne Atlantique Hospital in Vannes (high and low current installations, fire detection and alarm system, access control).

“Our experience in the hospital sector and in carrying out work for health facilities has grown steadily in recent years, the result being that we keep securing new contracts”, notes Denis Vinsonneau, a director within the Tertiaire division of SPIE Industrie & Tertiaire. “Our local teams, the quality of the work provided and use of the very latest technologies, such as BIM, have enabled us to secure a reputation among purchasers as a key player in the medical sector.”
