Thursday 8 October 2020 – SPIE Facilities, a French subsidiary of the SPIE group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, committed to an energy saving strategy, brought together the decision-makers from Banque Populaire Alsace Lorraine Champagne and Caisse d’Epargne Grand Est Europe to discuss energy challenges
Challenges to be faced together
On 7 October, SPIE Facilities organised an event for the staff members of two of its customers in the Grand Est region. The stated objectives of this event were to inform and raise awareness, share good practices and present tools and solutions that would allow staff members to implement an efficient approach to energy consumption. As a responsible partner, SPIE Facilities aims to build on its technical interventions by providing very specific added value to its customers’ energy saving strategies.
This approach is just one of the resources that SPIE Facilities offers its customers to help them achieve the objectives of the French “Tertiary Decree” in a shorter timeframe.
Five workshops for identifying challenges and solutions
The morning was split into five workshops, each addressing one of the challenges that the majority of companies in the sector are facing. The decision-makers were able to access innovative solutions that have been tested in large companies in the tertiary sector that SPIE Facilities is involved with.
The first two workshops addressed the implementation of the Energy Performance Contract (CPE) and the benefits of white certificates (CEE), which are the primary mechanisms for improving a building’s energy performance. These two tools, used by SPIE Facilities under its energy maintenance contracts, are a key part of its commitment to energy efficiency.
The third workshop gave participants the opportunity to tackle the challenges of the Energy Management System (EMS), which seeks to improve energy management. Used on a daily basis on over 2000 of the sites that SPIE works on, this solution makes it possible to measure the breakdown of energy consumption, investigate the quality of the organisational structure used and identify mechanisms for optimising several energy-consuming systems, for example lighting, heating or even air conditioning.
SPIE Facilities also had the opportunity, via a workshop on IoT technology, to present the benefits of its “SMART FM 360°” solution. This unified digitisation solution enables customers to control maintenance activities centrally thanks to building intelligence techniques (IoT, etc.).
The fifth workshop tackled Quality of Life at Work and Corporate Social Responsibility: technology is finally reprising its role, building on user needs for specific solutions to be devised that combine feedback from human experiences and simulations based on thousands of data captured from our sensors. The challenge here is huge, as it involves juggling occupant well-being, energy performance and new uses at work.
Sustained/regular participation at this half-day event confirms the relevance of this initiative. It was a real pleasure for the entire SPIE Facilities team to host these sessions, which attest to both the individual and collective interest in the challenges surrounding energy consumption and performance. “By offering our dedicated expertise, raising awareness among as many people as possible and working with clear and measured objectives, we can achieve efficient and successful new practices,” notes Jean-Louis Chatillon, Grand Est business director at SPIE Facilities.
