SPIE strengthens its partnership with EUREF-Campus Berlin by taking over the campus’ technical facility management

Published on 02 February 2023

Berlin, February 2nd, 2023 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, and EUREF AG are stepping up their partnership. SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, the German subsidiary of SPIE, is taking over building technology maintenance services on Berlin’s EUREF-Campus from 1 January 2023. Since October 2022, the multi-technical services provider has already been overseeing technical property management and operational management services - a commitment also expected to be expanded further throughout the year. SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa is leveraging its innovative digital solutions for optimal energy management and smooth operations for the benefit of the EUREF community.

Expertise for the EUREF community

SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa and EUREF AG are strengthening their partnership in Berlin before SPIE even moves into the forthcoming climate-neutral EUREF-Campus Düsseldorf in 2024. Starting on January 1st, 2023, SPIE will take over maintenance services at EUREF-Campus Berlin, after having assumed the property management and operational management services since October 1st, 2022.
We’re delighted to have this opportunity to further our commitment to the EUREF community by bringing our technical expertise to EUREF-Campus Berlin. This site, more than any, embodies innovation in the energy and mobility transition. We have a lot to offer here with our specialists – and at the time benefit from exchange on site,” explains Rainer Hollang, Managing Director/COO of SPIE Efficient Facilities GmbH.

Kevin Hauert, member of the Executive Board of EUREF AG and Managing Director of EUREF-Service GmbH: “We hope to provide our demanding tenants with optimal technical facility management that specifically meets our standards as a pioneer of the energy transition. Seamless cooperation with the facility management team is also especially important for our high-profile events. We have had a brilliant experience with SPIE over the past few months and we are thrilled to extend our partnership.

Experience and innovation

The team from SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa’s Efficient Facilities operational division took over the first service contract for a specific building in April 2022. Since then, the team led by Martin Burkhardt, Site Manager, and Ulrike Stöhr, Junior Site Manager, has been integrating its operations and technology at the campus, and the contract has gradually grown. As such, many of the activities involved in contract negotiations – including using bar code labelling to keep track of the buildings and systems – are already completed. “In my 45-plus years of professional experience, I can honestly say that managing properties on site is a very special assignment, not only because of the large number of innovative and energy-optimised tenants and their technology, but also in view of the day-to-day requirements of this future-oriented site” says Martin Burkhardt. “I’m excited by the opportunity to put our innovative solutions into practice here. For instance, the digital twin of the gasometer building, for which we’ve been collecting data during this early construction phase, will enable us to further optimise our service.” adds Ulrike Stöhr, who completed her dual-track study programme at SPIE in 2022.

The contract concluded between SPIE and EUREF Service GmbH in October 2022 is a framework agreement. This means that more properties are expected to be added to SPIE’s portfolio in the future. “Over the past year, the successive expansion of our responsibilities has allowed our team to build an exceptionally broad understanding of the properties on the EUREF Campus. We will now use this expertise as we move forward with our commitment,” explains Robert Latarski, tender director at SPIE Efficient Facilities.
